Shrove tuesday

Come to christmas

Shrove Tuesday or “Fat Tuesday” is celebrated on the day before Ash Wednesday. Originally, the day was an opportunity to rid the home of all fats, sugar, and rich foods before the season of Lenten fasting begins. Pancakes are the perfect food to combine all of those ingredients. If you are willing to help out with the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, contact Elizabeth Simmons or the Church Office. Another part of the Shrove Tuesday celebration is the burning of the palm branches that were carried triumphantly into the sanctuary last Palm Sunday. These palms become the ashes that mark our heads on Ash Wednesday. The Ash Wednesday service was held at 6:45 pm in the sanctuary following our regular Christian Fellowship Dinner.
A GREAT opportunity to prepare for the coming of Christ with your church family in a different way. First has been celebrating “Come to Christmas” for more than thirty years. This night is an evening of fun, fellowship, and crafts for all generations together.  The activities begin at 5:30 p.m. We will eat soup and sandwiches just after 6:00 p.m. The young and young at heart are invited to take pictures with Santa in the Simmons’ Parlor. The Secret Santa workshop allows children to make gifts to surprise their family. Come for the food. Come for the crafts. Come for the fellowship. Come just to watch the joy of the season in action. Come! Come to Christmas!
